「女の美には期限がある」

「女はいつか女らしさを失う」

「女は若いうちが花」

 

本当によく聞く言葉。

大抵の女性は年を重ねることを嫌がるし、ただシワが増えるだけ、ただ下っ腹が出てくるだけ、ただ劣化していくだけ・・・

そういう風に、「年を取ること」を解釈してるような気がする。

りさも、そうだったの。

ずっと若いままでいたい、ずっとこのままのプロポーションを維持してずっとピチピチでいたい。今が全盛期。これ以上のピークはこない。これからはどんどんおばさんになっていくだけ。

 

だけど、この人を知って、この人の生き方とか仕事への思いとかを知って、考え方が変わったの。

 

 

Carmen Dell’Orefice（カルメン・デロリフィチェ）

 

なんと、８２歳の現役スーパーモデル。

 

モデル歴７０年、今も雑誌やコレクションで活躍しているの。

 

 

People say that there is a freshness date for women. That woman’s life is the best when she is young. That woman’s life ends when they lose youth. And yes, women often admit it. They say things like, “What’s happy about birthdays?” “I just got another wrinkle” “My stomach is sticking out because I’m not young anymore”…… This is what I also thought. I mean, I’m only 20 years old now, but I still sometimes thought that I didn’t want to become older, I wanted to stay 16 forever, I thought being young is the best part of my life. Until I got to know this beautiful lady, Carmen Dell’orefice. Don’t fall of your chair- she’s 82 years old, and is still working as a model.

Carmenの出ている記事とか、ショーとか色々見たし、インタビューとかもチェックしたけど・・・

この人は未だに「まだまだこれから！」って気持ちがある、すごくパワフルな女性。

モデルっていうキャリア面でもその情熱はすごい尊敬に値するけど、それ以上に一人の女性としてかっこいいんだ。

 

年を取ることをマイナスなことだと思い込んでるから、自然とそれが表面に出てくるんだと思った。

Carmenを見てると、この人は絶対に年をとることへのネガティブな思考は一切ないし、常に前を向いて、向上心に溢れてるのが伝わってくるの。

写真を見るだけでも、彼女の内から出るエナジーと自信を感じる。

 

あー、こういう年の重ね方をしたい、って思わせてくれるの。

 

 

I’ve read many of her interview articles and seen her work in collections and magazines. I realized she has this power of “I’m still on progress in life”, and that she is such a powerful and energetic woman.  Of course I admire her on the modeling career side, but moreover I look up to her as a woman. People think that getting old is a negative action. That is the reason why woman renunciate their desire to look good and pretty. Looking at Carmen, I thought, she doesn’t comprehend “getting old” as a negative thing. She’s always looking straight forward to the future and I feel her ambition in life, even if she is 82 years old. I feel her energy through her work. She makes me feel that I want my life to be like hers.

 

 

「若さ」なんて結局はいつかはなくなる、一時的なステータスなんだよね。

若い＝まだ人生経験が浅い。

だからこそ、色んな無茶が出来る。そういう意味で、若さっていうのは色んなことが新鮮に感じる限定期間かもしれない。

でも、若さ＝美しさ　ではないと思ってる。

人生経験をたくさん積んで、自分を高めてきた大人の女性にしか出せない魅力もある。

 

りさは、美しさっていうものは内側から出てくるってことを心底信じてるし、そういう考え方が出来るようになったのもCarmenの影響。

 

８２歳っていったら、りさのおばあちゃんよりも年上。

なのに、今でも人に見られる仕事をして、洋服を魅せて、自分を魅せてる。

魅せる「意識」があるの。

 

彼女の価値観は素晴らしいものだし、本当に尊敬。

 

 

Youth will fade away eventually. It’s only a temporary status you get in the life span of about 80~90 years in average. It’s a short period of time- “old” life is longer than “young” life in total if you think about it. But here’s what I think. Youth does not equal to beauty. Youth is equal to “little experience” which equals to “being able to try out things without fear”. It’s not about being pretty or beautiful when you’re young. It’s just being able to do stuff because you don’t know what it’s like yet. But being old equals to “went through lots and lots of life experiences”. And that is sometimes, what generates beauty from the inside. There is definitely a form of beauty that only well-experienced women have.I believe in inner beauty and believe that inner beauty has deep connection with outer beauty. Without knowing Carmen, may be I wouldn’t have even thought of beauty this way.

 

 

 

長くなってしまったけど、みんなにも一度「美」ってなんだろうって考えてもらいたい！

そしたら今まですごい固執してきたことを手放せてもっと広い視野を持てるかもしれないし、もっと人生が楽しめる気がするんだ。

 

 

I talked too much today, but I really want all of you nylonistas to think about beauty again. What is beauty? Think. Not only about having big eyes and smooth skin. If you got the answer other than that, you’d be able to let go of the shallow things you were grabbing onto, and get broader vision on life.

 

 

 

ちなみに、これが彼女がまだ若かった頃。

この時も美しいけど、りさは今のCarmenのほうがずっと綺麗だと思う！

 

By the way, this is her when she was young. Of course she is beautiful here as well, but is it only me who think she looks more beautiful when she’s 82 years old?;P
