今までのファッション業界は、何かと白人モデルを起用することが多かった。

ストリートなブランドはあえてイメージを定着させるために黒人モデルをキャンペーンに使うことが多かったり、または少し民族的なスタイルを提案するシーズンだけ黒人モデルをコレクションに起用したり・・・まあ、オケージョンに合わせて、って感じだったとりさは思ってる。

 

でも、アジア人ってなかなか注目されなかった。ずっと昔から、最近まで。

黒人か、白人。黄色は無視。

 

でも、やっとアジアの魅力に世界が気づき始めたかな？なんて。

NYLONも、１つ前の号でアジア特集をしていたけど、本当にそれは的を得てて、今グローバルな視点で見るファッション業界においてアジア人のモデル需要が増えてる。と、思うんだ。

 

今までよりずっとコレクションに出るアジア人が増えたし、最近ではハイブランドのキャンペーンにアジア人が起用されることももはや珍しく無い。

 

一アジア人として、とっても誇らしいことだし、純粋に嬉しいよね！！

 

ということで、りさもそのブームを後押しすべく、今日は今注目してるアジア人モデルをピックアップしてシェアするね。

Today I want to blog about Asian models. Fashion industry preferred White models, on campaign ads and editorials, covers of a magazine and collection models. On the other hand, Black models were more likely to appear on ads for street brands (guessing that the brand wanted the “black and dope and street” image on their brand…). I’m sorry if I am offending anyone, but since I am talking about race, I guess it’s impossible for me to not offend every one reading this blog. But talking about race is never a taboo. Honestly, I am Japanese, meaning that I should consider myself as belonging in the minority social group. Even looking at fashion industry; Asian models were never the center of attention. It was either White or Black, but almost never Yellow. However it is 21st Century now- the situation is beginning to change, in a better way. I am thinking that the global fashion industry has finally realized the attractiveness of Asian women! Looking at all the campaign ads for high fashion brands and collections, it is not considered “rare” to see Asian models in it. This is honestly, and purely, something we Asians should feel proud of and be happy! So today I’d like to share some of my favorite Asian models.

 

 

1.  Xiao Wen Ju

1992年5月19日生まれの22歳。

りさの１個上？！信じられないほど大人っぽくてびっくりする！

中国人。

中国系で初めてMarc jacobsの顔になったモデル。

２０１０年からモデル活動を開始して、まだキャリアは浅いけどものすごい勢いで注目されてるハイファッションモデル。

3.1 Phillip Lim, DKNY, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Pradaなどなどのコレクションモデルとしてキャットウォークを歩いたトップモデル。

 

Born in May 19, 1992. She is Chinese. I seriously cannot believe she is only 1 year older than me!! She has modeled for many top high end brands, like 3.1 Phillip Lim, DKNY, Louis Vuitton, etc. in their collections, walked down the runway. She got great attention for being the first Chinese descent model to become the face of Marc Jacobs.

2. Soo Joo Park

 

 

 

1989年3月26日生まれ。２５歳。

韓国人モデル。

スカウトで始めたモデル業がものすごくヒット！

アジア顔にロングのブロンドヘアが印象的な彼女、Emporio Armani, Vivienne Westwoodなど一癖あるブランドに引っ張りだこ。

かと思いきや、CHANELのキャンペーンモデルに抜擢されたりと、様々なジャンルで人気を博しているアジア人スーパーモデル。

 

Born in March 26, 1989. She is Korean. She was scouted while shopping, and since then has been the top Asian model. She has modeled for Armani, Vivienne Westwood, etc., and also was the campaign model for CHANEL. Her signature look, the platinum gold hair with the typical single-lid Asian cool face is so attractive and is loved by the industry.

3. Ming Xi

1990年3月8日生まれ。24歳。

中国人モデル。

 

２００９年にモデル業を始めて、２０１０年にはGivenchyのクチュールショーでデビュー。華々しいデビュー。かっこいい！

 

そのあとは本当にずっと一流トップアジア人も出るとして、House of Holland, Jil Sander, Pucci, Dior, Kenzo,などなど挙げたら切りがないほどのコレクションに出演。

アジア人モデルの中でもかなりの売れっ子。

 

なんと、アジア人ながらあの「victoria’s secret」のショーに出演したことも。りさ、それを初めて見た時ちょっと・・・いや、かなり驚いたかな。（笑）

 

彫りが深くてほおがこけてて、ザ・モデルって顔立ちだから本当にどんなメイクでもヘアでも素敵。

いつもはクールな顔が多いけど、インスタにあっぷされる笑顔がめちゃくちゃ可愛らしい！

 

Born on march 8, 1990. Chinese model. She began modeling in 2009, and her debut took place in Paris, as a runway model for Givenchy Couture show. Since then she has been running the top of Asian models, modeling for House of Holland, Jil Sander, Dior, Kenzo, Louis Vuitton, etc. There’s not enough room for me to raise all brands she has modeled for. She is one of the top models, and she even modeled for Victoria’s Secret show… which is hard to believe but it is true… lol

4. Fei Fei Sun

  

1989年3月20日生まれ。25歳。

中国人モデル。

高校卒業後にモデル活動を本格的に開始。

なんとまだ学生らしい！本当かな？ファッションデザインを勉強してるという情報が。。。今はもう卒業したのかしら？

 

彼女はLondon Fashion Weekでデビューして、その後Dries Van Noten, Celine, Miu Miu, Pradaなど一流ハイブランドのランウェイも歩くトップモデルに。

素朴な顔してるんだけど、ものすっごいメイク映えするから見てて楽しくて好きなの。

パレットのようにのせる色によって表情や雰囲気まで変えて、違う人みたいになるところが魅力的。

まあスーパーモデルに対して言うことでもないけど・・・顔小さすぎ。（笑）

身長１７９cm、決してスーパーモデルの中では背が高いとは言えないけど、それでもコレクションに引っ張りだこなのは彼女の魅力が身長をも補うからだろうね。

 

She was born on March 20, 1989. She is Chinese. I saw a piece of information that she is still attending to a university majoring fashion design; i’m not sure if she still is a student. She made her runway debut in London Fashion Week, and after she modeled for Dries Van Noten, Celine, Miu Miu, Prada and lots more. Her face is pretty simple—in other words, plain… which is a great thing because she totally changes when she has make up on. She is beautiful without makeup as well don’t get me wrong. I mean, she can transform into a completely different person, depending on the colors they put on her. I love that about her. Plus this is a stupid thing to say about a supermodel, but her FACE IS GODDAMN SMALL. Also, she is only 179cm tall, which sounds tall for a girl, but when that girl is a supermodel… 179 is kind of short. Not to mention that Kate Moss is only 168 and is still a legendary supermodel. So what they have in common is that they have something that outweighs their disadvantage in hight.

5. CHIHARU

 

 

1992年5月15日生まれ、２２歳。

日本人。

はい来ました、お待たせみんな。

日本人よ！！

 

日本ではCHIHARUって名前にしてるけど海外ではChiharu Okunugiでやってるみたい。

彼女に関しては、日本人だけど日本語で検索するより英語で検索したほうが色んな写真や情報が出てくる。なぜかって、彼女は活動拠点が日本ではなくもちろん海外にあるスーパーモデルだから。

といいつつも、日本でも活動してるけどね！

Lumineの広告塔になったり。。。

 

日本人だけど身長１７８cm。

スカウトから始まったモデル活動だけど、その独特な顔立ちとスタイルで２００９年に東京コレクションでショーに出演。

２０１１年には海外での活動も初めて2012SSでパリコレデビュー。

そこから彼女に魅了されたブランドは次々とコレクションやキャンペーンで起用をはじめ、ついにはSoo Joo Parkと一緒にCHANELのキャンペーンにまで。

Prada、Louis Vuitton、Versaceなどのショーモデルも。

 

日本人の誇りだね！

こんなに若いのに、日本を代表するトップモデルとして海外で活躍していることの重大さ。

 

Born on May 15, 1992. Japanese model. Finally- sorry for keeping it for the last. It’s a Japanese model guys wake up! lol Anyways, she was insecure about her height(I feel her badly, even though i’m only 173cm tall and she is 178cm, I still understand how embarrassing it can be to live in a country where most of the girls are 20cm shorter), but she got scouted from Satoru Japan, one of the biggest modeling agency in Japan and began her modeling career. She made her runway debut in Japan Fashion Week. She made her PFW debut in 2011. She has also been the campaign model for CHANEL with Soo Joo Park.

今回はこの５人で！

 

アジア人という点で言うと、かなりの注目度がもうあるし、中国人モデルのステータスは確立された気がする。

 

中国は人口が多い分、身長１８０cm超えで美貌を持つ奇跡の人間が多く生まれる。日本と韓国は人口が少ない分、確率が一緒でもその奇跡の人間の数が少ない。

それに今中国は経済的にも上向きだし、中国人モデルはどんどんこれからも業界のトップを目指して走るのは間違いない。

そしてそれは素晴らしいこと！

人種関係なく、みんなが平等に評価される日が来そうなんだから。

 

日本人も、CHIHARUみたいにスーパーモデルのポテンシャルを持つ女の子&男の子は絶対にまだまだたくさんいるしこれからもたくさん生まれてくるはず。

しかも今まではそういう子がいてもなかなか相手にされなかった時代。

これからは、どんどんアジア人でも上にあがれる時代だからこそ。

 

世界的に活躍出来る日本人モデルが増えれば絶対に日本のファッション業界はもっともっと盛り上がりを見せるはず！

 

今後の日本人モデルにものすごい期待を寄せているんだ。

 

もし身長が高くて悩んでる子がいたら、是非モデルになるように進めてあげてね。

りさの友達は、それで実際にショーモデルになったからさ。

 

 

So they were my top 5 favorite Asian models. hope you enjoyed it! Looking at my 5 choices, you could see that 3 out of 5 are Chinese. In fact, Chinese models have really defined their status in this industry by now. They have developed financially, and they won’t stop running to the top of the industry. But that’s not a bad thing at all, I love Chinese models as well as I love Japanese and Korean models. Since that really means that people are starting to evaluate Asians. Of course, I mean if you think about it it’s obvious that Chinese models are the majority of Asian models, considering their huge population. Even if the probability of giving birth to a supermodel is the same among these three countries, the one with the largest population will win in the number of supermodels. Simple maths. Japan has small population compared to China. Even if the probabilities are the same, the numbers will be smaller. But still, there will be more models like CHIHARU who will be able to participate in the global fashion industry. Before, even if those supermodels were born and even if they had spider long legs and tiny heads, they weren’t able to fly so high. Now, they have equal opportunities as all the other models. I really sound patriotic and weird here; I just want to say, that I’m not trying to leave a racist blog post, or intending to offend anyone, but I’m just purely supportive of all Asian models who are trying their best to become a part of the global fashion industry. Huge huge love from me. And please, if there is anyone who is feeling insecure about height, anyone around you, please recommend them to try the modeling career. I once did that to one of my friends and she is now a runway model. <3
