The ad pushed the old-loved trench coat and the Burberry plaid as usual; it’s unbelievable how these two icon items don’t fade away as time passes by.<\/p>\n

I see some brands are beginning to use Black models for their campaign ads. I know some of you might think, Ooooh Racism is a fake story it doesn’t happen that often in the real world and it’s just a myth. NO that’s not true at all. It is still difficult for people of colors to find their way to success. PRADA used a Black model recently for their ads, but that was a miracle because the last time they used a Black model was 20 years ago(!). Valentino used a Black model last year, finally. So racism does exist in the fashion world as well and it is difficult to get over that racial issue. It is getting better though.<\/p>\n

I can be blabbering about that forever but I’ll stop and talk about the Burberry brand. What I am going to talk about is what I learned at my class in college and I thought it was really interesting. I studied about a rebranding strategy(to improve or change the brand image) and I had to give a presentation on my rebranding strategy for the company\/brand I chose, and when we were doing that exercise, my professor explained what the rebranding strategy is like, by telling us about Burberry’s rebranding.<\/p>\n

I shouldn’t be saying this out loud, but it’s sooo cheesy!! I don’t like it at all. Not fashionable, not luxurious. Not only the ads were in the way of Burberry’s brand image, but also the plaid cap and T shirts were worn by hooligans. Nobody really knows why, but Burberry became so popular among the hooligans, which really devalued the image of Burberry as a high-fashion brand.<\/p>\n

They used Kate Moss, the top TOP super model and built up the luxurious image. They also temporarily stopped using the Burberry plaid which the Hooligans loved. This ad with Kate Moss changed, flipped over the bad image that Burberry had, and made it into a luxury high fashion brand like it used to be.<\/p>\n
