As a college student, cafes are really really important to me. It’s where I can stay as long as I want to, doing my assignment or writing a blog post, and nobody gives a shit about it. I hate it when I’m at a restaurant doing my stuff and they tell me to get out because I’ve stayed for 2 hours now. But that never happens to a cafe so yay for us students! The thing is, I don’t really like Starbucks so much since I’m a kind of person who hates being washed away by social norms. I hate people opening up their Macbook at starbucks sipping a Frappucino so instead I go to a random coffee shop where I can drink coffee for 200 yen- yes i’m that kind of person. But I do like to go visit new cafes in Japan where people are gossiping about, and Gorilla Coffee was one of those cafes so here I went.<\/p>\n

Here it is! Black and Red base colors, clean windows with big white COFFEE. Very sophisticated and egdy are the impressions I had when I first saw this cafe. It’s also a good Instagram photo location if you are ok with posing in front of all the people walking pass you in Shibuya lol<\/p>\n

I did a little research and found out that Gorilla Coffee is from Brooklyn, New York. The reason why it’s called “gorilla” is because they make strong powerful coffee just like gorillas… according to their web page….. well yes, I can really see the strong powerfulness through the colors and fonts they use.<\/p>\n

Inside is a clean white brick wall with a cute logo printed on as an accent. Very American! Starbucks is also from the states but because they have a strong marketing&branding team in Japan, it doesn’t really have an American atmosphere there but Gorilla Coffee has the American vibes.<\/p>\n

So since it was my first time here, I decided to go for a plain, normal ice coffee. I’m not working for them, and as a NYLON blogger I want to be honest with you at all times so yes I’m going to be very very very honest….. I didn’t like their coffee at all. PERSONALLY! I like it a little more stronger and darker… it tasted like a coffee-flavored water or something. But then I realized that people are drinking shakes more than coffee so I guess people who don’t like light coffee order shakes instead.<\/p>\n

Besides the taste, I also thought that the atmosphere was a little loud and noisy. Because it’s an open cafe with a huge table in the middle of the room sharing it with 10 or more customers, it’s not a place where you can really feel comfortable and chill. The lighting is bright compared to many cafes in Tokyo and the windows are huge as well so you can definitely feel the openness. But if I were to study or do my assignment, may be I might choose a different place. It is perfect if you went there with your friends to chit-chat though! I also thought that the chairs sucked. It was like a chair at McDonalds, cheap, light, hard… personally, I need a good comfy chair at a cafe so that my butt won’t start aching after a long sit. I’ve been saying craps about this cafe so far but I’m going to mention about the good sides as well don’t worry. I loved the designs and appearance of this cafe a lot, and also they have abundant food menus. I also liked the fact that they have lots of outlets. I always have low battery on my phone and if I were to use my computer I would definitely need to charge it so that’s very very good.<\/p>\n
