I was reading this article on Fashionista, my favorite fashion portal web site, and I found it very interesting so I decided to write a blog post about it. The article was pointing out how ZARA’s sweater looks so much like MOSCHINO’s Barbie collection. And yes, I think it does look very alike. Many people who say “I don’t like fast fashion brands” also say that one of the reasons is because they copy high end collections and they hate to wear copies. Of course I understand that ideology. I am a fast fashion freak but I must say, every time I go into H&M or ZARA or Forever 21, I walk around saying “oh this is the design from blah blah blah, this one looks close to the blah blah blah”. So I do agree, fast fashion brands are copycats.<\/p>\n

Copies suck because people in high end fashion brands use lots of money to make clothes, use expensive fabrics and designers with high salaries! So it’s not fair for them if fast fashion brands keep on making the same thing and make tons of money. I know! But high end brands are trend-setters. They make the trend, celebrities and models want to wear collection clothes, then people like me see them wearing those collection clothes and want them. But then I look at the price tag and it’s crazy expensive. So this is where fast fashion brands came in! They make clothes just like high end brands, but with lower price (not to mention, lower quality of course) and make good money, WE buy those clothes because we can’t afford high end clothes, and it does look like the real ones so now there is this win-win relationship between us and them.<\/p>\n

So nobody should be ashamed of going into fast fashion shops and getting clothes from them. Not only fast fashion brands but most brands that ain’t high end do copy designs from somewhere to some extent. So that’s nothing to be ashamed of. But it is kind of embarrassing to be wearing an obviously copy- designed clothes not knowing that you are wearing one. Think about it, you are wearing that ZARA’s Moschino-ish Sweatshirt without knowing that it’s Moschino-ish, and you think it’s just cute, but then this girl who just walked past you looks at you and think “gosh she’s wearing a sweatshirt that looks so much like Moschino but isn’t LOL LOL LOL”. That’s kind of embarrassing.<\/p>\n

2.Go for basic items<\/p>\n

3.Avoid items you think you saw somewhere else before<\/p>\n

4.If it’s more like “-ish\/inspired” than “copy”, it’s\u2026 OK.<\/p>\n

Impact items like big logo Tshirts or character prints, have high possibility it is a copy. However, basic items like plaid, polka dos, shirts or denims, them you should get at fast fashion brands. I know the fabric and silhouette are better if you get it at high end brands, but still, I wouldn’t be able to pay more than $300 for a plain T shirt! So get basic items here. I buy knits and parka here as well and no one can tell.<\/p>\n

It is difficult to notice every single copy items because there are WAY too many. think about it, you find a pretty sweater with bijoux around the neck. Bijoux and sweater are not that of a surprising match. However if a high end brand shows bijoux sweater on their collection, people will think that they gave birth to this bijoux sweater thing. So don’t give a shit and wear it if you think it ain’t that bad.<\/p>\n
